Trunk or Treat
Indiana Drama Club Hosts First Annual Trunk or Treat in Partnership with Arts for Lawrence
On Tuesday, October 29th, 2024, the Indiana Drama Club hosted its highly anticipated First Annual Trunk or Treat, in collaboration with Arts for Lawrence. What started as a small idea quickly turned into a magical evening, bringing together families, children, and community members for an unforgettable night of costumes, creativity, and Halloween fun. The event, held at the school parking lot, was a huge success, drawing in a larger crowd than anyone had anticipated.
Indiana Drama Club's student officers, who planned and executed the entire event, truly went above and beyond to create a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere for all ages. With themes that ranged from nostalgic to spooky, the creatively decorated "trunks" (or cars) provided plenty of opportunities for trick-or-treating, as well as photo ops for children and families.
Themed Cars That Brought the Fun
This year’s trunk themes were a huge hit with everyone. Each car was transformed into an immersive experience, representing beloved pop culture and Halloween themes. Some of the standout vehicles included:
The 70s Hippy: A groovy throwback filled with peace signs, tie-dye, and flower power.
Nightmare Before Christmas: A spooky and whimsical setup with Jack Skellington and Sally, offering a perfect blend of Halloween and Christmas spirit.
Descendants: Rise of Red: A vibrant trunk showcasing the colorful world of Disney's Descendants, bringing the characters to life in a way that delighted fans young and old.
Lost: For those with a taste for mystery, the Lost trunk.
Cookie Monster: A sweet and silly favorite for the younger crowd, featuring everyone's favorite blue monster and plenty of cookies to go around.
And these were just a few of the many creative cars that helped make the evening so special.
Free Activities and Entertainment for All
The event also featured several free activities to entertain children and families. Indiana Drama Club students brought some of their other talents and added to the festive atmosphere by providing free:
Face painting An IDC student/Officer Emery painted faces for all the children
Caricatures by Bree: Bree, a talented local artist, was on hand to create fun, exaggerated caricatures of children and families, providing them with a unique keepsake from the night.
Balloon animals: One of our students Timmy made balloon animals for all the children
Super Cyber Battle Rangers Make an Appearance
One of the biggest highlights of the evening was the appearance of the Super Cyber Battle Rangers. Dressed in their vibrant costumes, these local heroes took time to pose for pictures with the kids, creating a buzz of excitement. They even engaged the crowd with a special preview of the upcoming Drama Club production, Super Cyber Battle Rangers which will run from November 15th to 17th. The cast was thrilled to share details about the show and encourage families to come out and support Indiana Drama Club in their upcoming performance.
Bake Sale for State Conference Fundraising
As part of the event, the Drama Club also hosted a bake sale to raise funds for the State Conference in January. The delicious homemade treats—ranging from cupcakes and cookies to brownies and cakes—were a big hit. The bake sale not only helped fund the club’s trip but also served as a sweet way for the community to show their support for the students’ hard work and dedication to the arts.
A Community Celebration Beyond Expectations
One of the most heartwarming aspects of the event was the overwhelming turnout. The event drew families and children from all over the community—many more than the club had initially expected. The outpouring of support showed just how much people value opportunities for family-friendly fun, and it was a testament to the Drama Club’s growing presence in the community.
Families trickled in throughout the evening, filling the parking lot with laughter, excitement, and the sound of little feet rushing from trunk to trunk in search of candy. The collaboration with Arts for Lawrence helped amplify the reach of the event, ensuring that the night was a success for all involved.
Looking Ahead to More Events
As the evening came to a close, it was clear that the First Annual Trunk or Treat was just the beginning of something special. The Indiana Drama Club is already looking ahead to next year’s event, with plans to make it even bigger and better. With the success of this year’s event and the community support, the club is excited to continue partnering with local organizations like Arts for Lawrence to bring the arts to life in new and exciting ways.
A big thank you goes out to everyone who participated, volunteered, and attended the event. Your enthusiasm and support are what made this Trunk or Treat such a memorable occasion. We can’t wait to see you again next year!
