“Repeat after me.”
I am awesome. You are awesome. We are all awesome! I should be confident. I should be kind. I should be confident and kind. You don’t have to be bad for me to be great. We can all be great. Out there is out there; in here is in here. When I am here I’m present. When I am here I am listening.
The Indiana Drama Club is a non-profit organization focused on offering high-quality theater education and hands-on experiences to students in grades 6 through 12. Our mission is to ensure these opportunities are accessible to participants at little or no cost.
We want to bridge the gap between students of different ethnic, socioeconomic and ability backgrounds and believe a key component to accomplishing this is by removing financial barriers. As an organization we have three major programs we use to accomplish our mission.
The Club
IDC will first and foremost be a club that meets bi-weekly between the months of September and May. Our club, not unlike a school drama club, will provide opportunities for students to interact and grow in their knowledge of the theatre. Our club will also be the home of Indiana Thespian Troupe 10273. Any student between 6th-12th grade who is homeschooled or attends a school without an active troupe, will have the opportunity to be inducted into the International Thespian Society via our club.
Productions
IDC will produce a full length play or musical production once a year. We will also produce a one-act production for submission to both the IndyFridge Festival and Thespian competition each year.
Scholarship Fund
Our scholarship program will provide financial assistance to Indiana Students wishing to participate in Indiana theatre arts programs but lack financial support and resources. (This is still a work in progress)
Indiana Drama Club is committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment for all students , regardless of any and all factors that define or contribute to one’s personal identity and belief system. While we are under no illusion that everyone who joins IDC will see eye-to-eye on all things, we will treat each other with honor and respect, and stay committed to an environment of love and belonging for all.
Our Directors
IDC was started as a passion project between long-time theater gurus, Amanda Gwin and Rai Ortman.
Monthly Meetings
Every third Wednesday of the month, our students meet from 6-7pm for an educational workshop. Each meeting focuses on a different aspect of theater and will have a special guest to talk about their particular expertise. The cost is free to attend.
Monthly Meeting former guests include:
David Owens: Singer and Vocal Coach
Casey Ross: Artistic Director, Playwright, Director
Jade Alia: Sound Designer
Amanda Mobley: Choreographer/Dancer
Jeffrey Dalstrom: Associate Director IndyFringe
Tessa Gibbons: SFX Makeup Artist
