Summer 2025

Summer at Indiana Drama Club has been nothing short of exciting, inspiring, and full of theatre magic.
We kicked things off in May at our monthly meeting with a special outing to see Asher in Beef & Boards production of The Little Mermaid, where he shined as Flounder. It’s always special to see our members thriving on professional stages.
By the end of May, we turned our attention to celebrating a major milestone—our graduating seniors! Through our social spotlights, we honored:
Brynn Dunlap and Isaiah Owens, both heading to Taylor University.
Evelyn Skaggs, off to Ball State University.
Teagan Cortez, excited to begin a new chapter at the University of Evansville.
In June, we kicked off the month by volunteering for the third summer at the Indy Strawberry Festival with Christ Church Cathedral. It was a beautiful, sunny day to sell (and sneak in a taste of) their famous strawberry shortcakes. Not only is this event a sweet summer tradition, but the funds raised also help nonprofits like ours continue to serve the community—something they’ve generously done for us twice.
Our June meeting took on a new purpose this year: holding auditions for our IndyFringe production of The Sandbox. We had an amazing turnout and built a fantastic cast of characters for our affectionate parody of The Sandlot. To celebrate, we hosted an outdoor screening of the original movie to set the tone for the summer.
We ended June by once again leading Arts for Lawrence’s Summer Arts Camp—our second year in a row. Our incredible Student Officers planned, prepared, and then led IDC members in directing and teaching two groups of students (ages 6–12) in short plays: Fish Tales and The Princess’s New Clothes. Together, they guided 46 campers through a week of creativity, laughter, and theatre fun. Their leadership was nothing short of spectacular.
July began with a whirlwind—rehearsals for The Sandbox. With just 15 rehearsals, our cast and crew worked hard to bring the story to life in record time. Mid-month, our July meeting took us back to Beef & Boards, this time to see Waitress. Watching live theatre is one of the best ways to grow as performers; every show offers lessons and inspiration that make us stronger when it’s our turn in the spotlight.
Now, as summer winds down, we’re gearing up for performances of The Sandbox as part of the 20th Anniversary of the IndyFringe Festival. We can’t wait to share all about that adventure in our next blog post—so stay tuned!
